CommentCrate ENTRESFR

Giveaway rules template for Instagram, YouTube and TikTok

Copy the clauses, fill in the brackets and publish the rules before the first entry.

How to use this template

Most giveaway disputes start with rules that were missing or vague. This template covers the points people ask about. Fill it in and publish it before the first entry.

  • Replace every [bracketed] part and delete any clause that does not apply.
  • Put the short version in the post and the full text on a page or a link in your bio. Say in the post where to find it.
  • Check the platform's rules for promotions and the laws where you and your participants live; ask a lawyer if the prize is valuable. If you collect a winner's address or ID to send the prize, data-protection law (such as the GDPR or KVKK) may require you to tell them how you use it. This template is general and is not legal advice.

Full giveaway rules text (10 clauses)

  1. Organizer. This giveaway is run by [your name or brand]. Contact: [email or profile].
  2. Who can enter. People who live in [countries] and are [age] or older. [Employees and relatives of the organizer] cannot take part.
  3. How to enter. Comment on [link to the post] and [tag N friends / answer the question]. Only comments on that post count. Each person has one entry, however many times they comment.
  4. Entry period. From [start date and time] to [end date, time and time zone]. Comments posted after the end do not count.
  5. How the winner is chosen. [Number] winner(s) and [number] backup(s) are drawn at random from the valid comments, using [CommentCrate / a spreadsheet / other method]. The draw is saved as a record that is available on request.
  6. Prize. [Description and value of the prize]. The prize [can / cannot] be exchanged for cash. [Who pays for delivery and any taxes.]
  7. Notifying the winner. Winners are announced in [the comments / a story] and contacted by [direct message] within [X] days of the draw. If a winner does not answer within [X] days or does not meet these rules, the next backup is chosen.
  8. Personal data. [Name] uses usernames and comments only to run this giveaway and keeps them until the prize is handed over, then deletes them. Details a winner gives for delivery are used only for that.
  9. Platform. This giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with [Instagram / YouTube / TikTok]. Questions go to the organizer, not to the platform.
  10. Changes and cancellation. The rules do not change after the giveaway starts. If it has to be cancelled, for example because of a technical problem or a platform decision, this is announced in the post.

Mistakes to avoid

  • “Comment to win” with nothing else: say whether tagging, several comments or replies count.
  • Calling the draw random while picking by hand. State the method, and use one you can show.
  • A deadline without a time zone, or a rule change after people have entered.

Then run the draw

When the deadline passes, scan the comments and draw: the giveaway picker does the counting, the draw and the profile links in your browser, and the record shows how the winner was chosen. The fair giveaway checklist is the one-page version of the points above.
