CommentCrate ENTRESFR

How to export Instagram Reel comments to CSV or Excel

You open the Reel, press Scan and the file downloads. Here is how it goes.

What you need

A computer with Chrome (or another Chromium browser, version 137 or newer) and the CommentCrate extension. The extension reads the comments the page shows you, so the Reel has to be public, or belong to an account you follow while you are signed in. Comments Instagram hides from you stay hidden.

Steps to export Reel comments

  1. Open the Reel on instagram.com on your computer. The address contains /reel/. If you found it in the feed, copy its link and open it in a new tab so the Reel has its own page.
  2. Check that the comments are showing on screen.
  3. Click the CommentCrate icon and press Scan comments. The counter goes up while the page scrolls.
  4. Keep the tab in front until the scan ends. A tab in the background does not load comments.
  5. Press CSV or XLSX and the file downloads.

What is in the file

One row per comment: the username, the text (emoji included), the likes and the time when Instagram shows them, and a flag for comments Instagram had hidden. All the columns are listed in the export guide.

Good to know

  • The free plan stops at 200 top-level comments per Reel. Pro has no limit and also exports replies.
  • Instagram hides or filters some comments, so the file can have fewer rows than the number under the Reel. Hidden comments that the page does show are flagged.
  • Big Reels take a few minutes. If the scan stops early, the panel tells you why.

Once you have the file

If you are running a giveaway on this Reel, how to run a giveaway from comments walks through it. To look at the comments instead, try comment analysis or open the file in Google Sheets.
