How to export Instagram comments to CSV or Excel
A complete walk-through with CommentCrate, from opening the post to opening the file.
Step by step
- Install CommentCrate in Chrome (or another Chromium browser, version 137 or newer).
- Open the Instagram post or reel in your browser and make sure the comments are visible.
- Click the CommentCrate icon, then press Scan comments. The count updates while the page scrolls and expands.
- Keep the Instagram tab in front until the popup says it is done. A hidden tab does not load comments.
- Press CSV or XLSX. The file is saved on your computer; open it in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.
What is in the file
One row per comment, with these columns:
id- the comment's identifier
parentId- the identifier of the comment a reply belongs to (empty for top-level comments)
author- the username
text- the comment text, with emoji and accented characters intact
likeCount- the number of likes, when Instagram provides it
createdAt- the time of the comment, when Instagram provides it
hidden- whether Instagram had hidden the comment behind “view hidden comments”
postUrl- the address of the post
Tips for complete results
- Large posts take minutes: the scan stops after a few minutes without new comments and tells you why.
- Comments that Instagram hides or filters may not be available; the file contains what the page could show.
- Open CSV files in a spreadsheet through “import” if accented characters look wrong; the file is UTF-8 and starts with a byte-order mark for Excel.
- Text that starts with = + - or @ is saved with a leading apostrophe so a spreadsheet never runs it as a formula.
Free and Pro
The free plan exports up to 100 top-level comments per post to CSV or XLSX. Pro removes the limit, includes replies with their parent link, and adds JSON.
Everything happens in your browser. Your comments are not uploaded anywhere.
